Guessing well is a skill. Practise it

The arithmetic first, because it decides everything downstream: there is no penalty for a wrong answer. A wrong answer and a blank are worth the same zero, and a blind guess among four options is a one-in-four chance of a point. So the floor is absolute and non-negotiable: nothing gets left blank, ever, under any time pressure.

Demo account, fictional results.

But treating that as the whole lesson undersells what guessing is. Between the blind guess at one-in-four and the answer you actually know lies a wide middle ground, and it is where a surprising number of your marks live.

Elimination is where the value is

You will meet many questions where you cannot identify the best answer but can absolutely identify a worst one. An option that contradicts the fact pattern. One that answers a different question. One that states the rule too absolutely, with a "must" where the law you half-remember lives in "may".

Strike one option and your blind guess improves to one-in-three. Strike two, and you are at even odds on a question you "didn't know". Across a whole paper's worth of uncertain questions, the candidate who eliminates before guessing collects meaningfully more of those coin-flip marks than the candidate who guesses cold, and neither of them knew the material better than the other. That margin is pure technique.

So the discipline on any question you cannot answer outright: spend thirty seconds eliminating, not searching for the right answer. Hunting for right needs knowledge you may not have. Hunting for wrong only needs the flaw in one sentence, and flawed options carry their flaws with them.

Commit and go

A reasoned guess deserves one more discipline: make it, flag the question, and leave. The time to relitigate is the return pass, if the clock allows one. Candidates burn minutes hovering over guesses, and the hovering has a second cost besides time: it converts one uncertain question into a mood that follows you into the next three certain ones.

Practise it like everything else

On your practice sittings, guess the way you intend to on the day, eliminate, commit, flag, and then let your review score the method itself. Your report already separates your quick confident misses from the rest; your flagged guesses that landed tell you the elimination habit is paying. If your guesses are hitting near one-in-four, you are guessing blind when you could be eliminating first.

The exam gives away a small number of marks to anyone disciplined about uncertainty. Take all of them.
